Principals’ visit from Post Primary Schools

Principals from Post Primary Schools in Arklow and Wicklow have visited the school and have
spoken to 5 th and 6 th classes. They have been invited to all the open days/evenings in the
secondary schools in the area to help them decide where they will go in the future.

Hunger Heroes

Hunger Heroes ConcernOn Thursday 27th September, Noeleen Doyle from Concern came to talk to the children from 3rd
– 6th class about the Hunger Heroes Campaign. It was set up by Concern to raise awareness
about fighting hunger and food waste globally, locally, in our schools and in our own kitchens.

GAA Blitz

On Friday 27th September Fifth and Sixth Class travelled to Aughrim for a GAA Blitz, which had
to be run indoors due to bad weather. The coaches kindly ran an indoor blitz with a reduced
number of schools and the children had a great day. Many thanks to Darren Hayden for
organising this event.

Cross-country Relays

The children from 3rd to 6th class participated in the Cross-Country Relays in Avondale on
Tuesday October 1st . The children were hugely supportive of each other and it was a lovely
experience for all.

BricksForKidzLego Bricks4Kidz Workshops

The school recently availed of a Lego workshop to encourage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities for Maths week. Each child created an aeroplane with a working motor. Hopefully we will have inspired the
space engineers for the future.

Pure Mile Awards

In June, 4th and 5th class worked hard on their Castletimon Pure Mile project, researching the
local history and hiking and litter-picking in Castletimon. On Wednesday 16th October, their project won the Recognition in Education Award and a cheque for €250 at the Pure Mile Gala Evening in Macreddin Hotel, Aughrim. The award was presented by Ian Davis of the Pure Mile and Minister Andrew Doyle. Well done everyone!

Legally-Blonde-posterLegally Blonde

On the 23rd October, Fifth and Sixth classes went to St. Mary’s College, Arklow to see the musical ‘Legally Blonde ‘. Some past pupils were involved in the musical. Congratulations to them all on a great performance. The children really enjoyed the musical.


Accord will visit the school on Wednesday 6th November and give a talk on growing up to 5th and 6th class.

Open /Enrolment Day

The Open / Enrolment day for Junior Infants starting in September 2020 will take place in school on Friday 24th January 2020. There are still places available. If you have a child due to start in September 2020, please ensure we have your name on the list.

Thank you to all the parents who accompanied teachers with children on the various trips. Many thanks to the parents who have given time and prepared the garden for the winter. Your time and co-operation is much appreciated.

Voluntary Contributions

Thank you to all parents who have paid voluntary contributions. As there is always a shortfall from the Department of Education, these contributions are necessary to pay the running costs of the school.

Dates for your diary:

Parent / Teacher Meetings: Thursday, 21st November 4 – 9pm. Individual meeting times were sent home with children after Halloween break.

First Holy Communion: Sunday, 10th May, 2020.
