School Closure: 12th March – 29th March 2019

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced the closure of all schools and colleges from 6pm today March 12th until at least March 29th.   If there is any change you will be updated.

Small schools do not have “Aladdin Connect” which allows for remote teaching.  All Aladdin add-ons, such as this, carry an extra annual cost which small schools such as ours cannot afford.

We have been considering over the past week how we can continue to support our students in the event of a closure being forced upon us.

5th and 6th classes will bring home some work, set by the teachers, and can work independently.  For all other classes we recommend:

  • Reading and comprehension (use a wide variety of children’s authors)
  • Board games
  • Revision of spellings and tables
  • Outside play
  • Art
  • Maths through everyday activities e.g. baking, telling the time, etc.
  • Nature walks (observing signs of spring and growth).  A pictorial or written diary could be kept.
  • Music and dance

In the meantime we urge that everyone observes all the other public health instructions and advice that have been published, so that the efforts to address this crisis may be successful.
